| Hey guys, I really enjoyed this year's first meeting. Playing MTG and kicking butt at street fighter 4 were fun, so thanks.
I was just wondering if I could suggest a different venue though? The lecture hall didn't really have the room we needed and people couldn't be social sitting in rows where they couldn't see each other well. Playing card games is quite hard in a lecture theatre. People really need to sit in a rough circle to socialise well.
If we could get a regular classroom with a few chairs, tables and plug sockets for our gear, that would make things a lot easier. I also have a wireless 360 adapter if that would help for next time.
PS: I promised it, so my magic the gathering thread with ultra cool newb advice is now up for those who want to see it in the Collectable Card Game (CCG) forum.
Thanks! | |

| Hey I would agree that a lecture theatre isn't ideal but it is literally a case of us asking the university for a room at a certain time and taking the first one they offer and being grateful for it. Hopefully we'll have better luck next time and also 3agle Lander are you kidding? It was amazing there were explosions and everything... so epic! | |

| Hell yes, the social was so much win. I agree that the lecture hall was a bit cramped, and playing RB2 on the steps for that long almost detroyed my legs, but not much can be done if that's the only room available. I dunno if the Union will allow us any room over in the Byron house. I was thinking the ground floor club area was large enough, but maybe that's already in use by another society on wednesdays. | |

| I'd didn't realise the uni were so arsey about it! Would you have more luck getting a room on clifton? we have loads of empty lecture rooms in the computing and informatics building on wednesday evenings, not to mention a whole suite of high tec PC's with every steam game known to man installed on them and lanned up for...educational purposes? I'm pretty sure I could swing a 5-7PM lan party any day of the week if people are interested. | |

| Dunno, depends if: a) I can get to Clifton from the city site without too much hassle/loss of money. b) It doesn't run too late. c) no lecture clashes. d) all of the above
Probably c will be the main concern.

| Most schools at Nottingham don't run lectures on wednesday past 12pm/1 o clock so the societies can do what they want. The real problem is societies having clashes, obviously if you are in Clifton you won't be making rock soc an hour later.
Bus travel round Nottingham for a day costs £3 and the last bus leaves Clifton for the city at 3am ish each day, so I wouldn't worry about getting back. Obviously most people here are from City so the real issue is effort but if we could get better facilities it may very well be worth it.

| From what I gathered from the first social, most are actually from Clifton as that is where the technology classes are held. They'll obviously have no problem making it. And I wondered why all the societies shoved their stuff on wednesday. At least now I know. And thanks for clearing up the costs, £3 for just one day is no problem. And I wouldn't pass up a chance to do some LAN games, even though I only have TF2 and L4D steam-wise. | |

| 95% sure most people are from city.
Tbh I can't see the city campus not having at least a similar level of facilities as clifton, so is just a case of tracking down where they are and booking them out.
I think that on Wednesday afternoon most of the sport societies get their shit done hence no lectures then.

| Good news. I checked my unstable timetable and I should be getting free wednesdays some time in the future.
As for a place similar to at Clifton, there's that wifi zone in the Byron house. Maybe they have computers there or something, or at least a big open space.

| The clifton steam rooms have been slightly locked down from my experience today- Basically they all have HL2 and CS:S installed, but can't have other things installed without your own account. Pity, because I wanted to play some random stuff. -I might be wrong, and I'm pretty sure we can login using our own accounts, but this may be a barrier. Unless we talk to James Lewis about it. =o | |

| I do agree with finding a better venue. We need a room with a projector and also computers and monitors. I'll be on the case soon | |

| I could talk to James if people want? I'm sure he wouldn't mind setting up a little something, he plays counter strike with the best of them. What I do need to know is who and how many people are interested before I start organising anything. Also, what days people would want to do, we'd be getting something like a 6-9pm slot. | |

| Bad news guys, I've just talked to James Lewis and apparently only computing students are allowed to use the computing facilities for recreation or work. Sorry guys, I tried! | |

| Ouch, well I guess we just have to find another outlet that has computers. Anyone know of any internet cafes that have steam? This is assuming there are any internet cafes around. | |
