Looking For A New Game Empty
PostSubject: Looking For A New Game   Looking For A New Game Icon_minitimeSun Feb 22, 2009 1:44 am

Hi guys, my WoW subscription has run out today and I'm going to put it on hold for a while. Basically i'm looking for a new game to play perferably a first or 3rd person shooter. Something edgey and stealth like hitman or splinter cell but not with such slow gameplay. A good story would be great aswell.

If any of you have any ideas then let me know. I need something to fill the void for a bit Smile

I would suggest GTA IV if you havent already got it, its pretty fun and if you dont wanna do missions you can just rampage about the map with weapon cheats, plus the story has 30+ hours gameplay. Another game I would recommend is dead space. Think system shock 2/ Event Horizon, its pretty good and has some replayability with not being able to upgrade everything first playthrough. Its not the greatest game ever but it'll make you jump a few times and has a good 8-10 hour gameplay.
Oh and also if you havent got left 4 dead, firstly, WHY?! and secondly if you don't definately get it. Its such a fun shooter, and doesn't go all "DEEEEEP" like most games try to do today. Awesome online, bit short campaign wise, but has lots of re-playability.

tl:dr
Dead Space,
GTA IV,
Left 4 Dead
pirat

I'm with him on Left 4 Dead - shallow game but an excellent zombie shooting game, its basically like being in Shaun of the Dead.

I must say though, I got bored of GTA4 fairly quickly, far too much rushing to go and see your cousin, going on dates, bowling, going to bars etc etc etc, jsut for it took away completely from waht i loved in GTA 3 - pavement driving and generally tearing the place up. Luckily I found the perfect replacement; Saints Row 2 is one of the only games that has really made me laugh. The dialogue in the cut scenes is great, and in yahtzee's words, "the main character is in this for the same reason you are, to have some FUCKING FUN!"

I almost completed GTA4, it's not that it's not a good game. But it doesn't really feel like a GTA game. GTA3 and GTA:VC were the best imo because they were just kind of crazy. GTA4 is too realistic and gets weighed down by all the crappy stuff you're bugged to do. I also didn't care about any of the characters at all.

I'm also shockingly not a massive fan of BioShock. I'm not sure why i'm not though. I think it might be because i've had so many people tell me OMG ITS SO AMAZING YOU HAVE TO PLAY IT, IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! So as i'm playing it i'm thinking this really isn't as good as people say. Also I don't really get how you kill big daddies when they're armor that looks impervious to bullets. You can get them down but there is no real indication of how much health they have left considering they don't bleed, or slow down or anything untill they're dead. I geuss i'm just nit picking now though.

I was thinking of playing BF:2142 again, but there is a the problem of me not having it with me in notts and I don't think anyone plays it online anymore.

BTW i'm going to open my suggestions up. I basically want to play any game that rules for either PC or xbox. There are no system restrictions for the PC aswell because my PC is McBeefytown.

I got street fighter 4 the other day. I'm a bit so-so about it right now. I am a fighting game fan but street fighter lacks and gives differnt things into this genre. But Unless you really wanna go and get it and get good at it, I don't recomend it for you jay. Other then that left 4 dead looks good. Other suggest would be old titles of gears 1 / 2 or halo 3

I think i'm going to go for Beyond Good and Evil for PC and play it with a 360 controller. It's on sale for £4.99 from steam which is pretty good. I'm currently looking for a wired xbox 360. The cheapest one i've found so far is from play for £17.99. Anyone got any ideas of where they might be cheaper? I want to avoid pre-owned ones.

I know what you mean about Bioshock, when someone says "this game is amazing PLAY IT PLAY IT PLAY IT PLAY IT " it normally completely puts me off and I don't bother (which is what happened to me with assassins creed). However I completely missed the Bioshock media frenxy as I had a Mac at the time and didnt care. Now that I'm back in the gaming streets, I picked up a copy over Christmas, and I have to say I'm loving it - its one of those rare games that seems to have actually had a lot of effort put into it isntead of "Something Generic 3" or "Repeated Title for Extra money 5".

I've been looking for a decent RPG to play for ages and I have to say Bioshock reminds me strongly of Super Metroid - unlocking new areas based on the weapons you find etc, and its very atmospheric, + the story is great and complicated too.

On the note of "how can you tell how much health a big daddy has", as with every enemy in Bioshock, a health bar appears in the center-upper part of your screen, shape of a rainbow. You probably don't notice it with the splicers as they die so fast, but it IS there Smile

I'm also still working my way through FEAR2 at the moment, but thats more because I think the combat engine is great fun, rather than the game, which I'm not *amazingly* impressed with

I play! Sometimes... There are still plenty of servers running with enough people to fill them.

Yeah, I never played Bioshock either until that crazy-cheap sale over christmas; at first I really wasn't that taken by it at all, the whole hacking mini-game mechanic is just irritating to me, but the rest of the game really does make up for it.

I finished FEAR 2 on saturday, I've been meaning to produce a wall-of-text-lengthy review about it, but I'm happy enough to sum it all up simply: Buy it, it is awesome.
Oh, and Dawn of War 2 is pretty good fun, if you can find it somewhere for a decent price, I refuse to pay the £35 steam is charging. £20 or £25 at most. -.-

I finished Bioshock a couple of days ago and loved every minute of it. It has it's ups and downs, and given that i specialised in technology, the minigame hacking does get fairly laborious. Having said that, the storyline kept me going and the twist in the middle of the game is BRILLIANT. It felt a lot like playing zelda ocarina of time again but in a different setting with new weapons etc. Luckily I missed all the hype when it was released so i could enjoy it for what it was, and I loved it Smile

When I've had another crack at my essay i'll keep playing through FEAR2 - I'm in the city at the moment with all the ghosts and things walking around. FEAR gets a lot of bad rap, but I'm enjoying this, and the combat engine is great fun.
