Xbox 360 controller for PC?

I've been doing some research on google but there isn't anything that helpfull. Is it possible to use a wireless 360 controller with a PC using a charge and play USB kit? Or do I have to buy a wired controller/special USB connecter for my controller?

I know its possible because you can buy 360 controllers for windows specifically and I've seen Phil from Nottingham University do it, i'll ask him next time i see him.

Im just using a wired one. Its handy as the 4th controller because it can double up for your pc as well.

How long is the wired cable? Because i'm defo going to want to hook up some bed gaming from across my room when i get a bigger monitor. I suppose it will all come down to price though.

For the record, you CANNOT use a wireless xbox controller with a PC without a USB dongle[link] called a Microsoft Crossfire/Wireless Gaming Reciever.

You can use any wired controller with a PC, just by plugging it in via USB.

However, the wireless dongle thing is bloody useful. You can literally use any Xbox wireless accessory with your PC with it (headset, steering-wheel, up to 4 controllers, guitar hero guitars).

It's how I played GH3 all last year

For the record, I've seen the receiver down to about 12£ somewhere, will try and find that if you want, whereas a wired controller is still ~22, I think. Also, the wire is apparently 8feet/3meters, whereas wireless is... awesome! and you can reuse all your xbox controllers. =)


Edit: Oh, and four xbox controllers on a PC? Great for emulation (MAME, N64, LittleFighter etc!) though I suppose the d-pads aren't great.

yer you use and wired controller direct by installing the drivers for it. buy the wireless reciver then use any 360 controller appliances, but you still needs its driver too. both avaible from.

Probably true, but I've never had to bother with any microsoft system above XP.
